Sing-May Chen | 2026 Leadership Award

Sifu Sing-May Chen is from Foshan, China, a designated “Hometown of Martial Arts” (武術之鄉). She first began her Tai Chi training at age 19, studying Yang Style under Grandmaster Zeng Qun and Grandmaster Ou Rongju.

Active in the Los Angeles Tai Chi community since 2005, Sifu Chen has trained under Sifu Russell Qiu and Master Guo Jie, as well as Grandmaster Zeng Nailing of China. A 3-time Grand Champion and 32-time gold medalist, her Tai Chi portfolio includes Yang Style (traditional & simplified), Chen Style (Xin Jia, Lao Jia, Yi Lu, and Er Lu), Competition Forms, Health Qigong, Hand, and Weapons (straight sword, broadsword, staff, fan, double fan, bagua pearls, cane, and horsetail whisk). She is also trained in the Five Family Kung Fu style by Master Ed Torres. Since 2014, she has served as a judge and head judge at the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship (ICMAC), Tempt One Martial Arts Championship, Golden Dragon Championships, and KungFuMagazine.com Championship.

As a leader in the community, Sifu Chen is passionate about promoting Tai Chi and Chinese martial arts through her involvement with the International Tai Chi Cultural Exchange Association, and the annual World Tai Chi & Qigong Days in Los Angeles and Irvine. Since 2010, she has organized the annual Hundred-Person Tai Chi 24 Demonstration (百⼈太極拳) at the Rosemead Fitness Day & Health Fair, highlighting Tai Chi’s accessibility for all. She is a founding board member of TCMAF, and has remained active on the board since 2017. She was inducted into the ICMAC Hall of Fame as a Master in 2021.

As an educator, Sifu Chen is committed to helping students build a strong technical foundation while fostering a welcoming and enjoyable learning environment. She was certified as a Tai Chi Instructor in 2012 by the Tai Chi Qigong Association of America, and reaches a broader audience through her YouTube channel, May’s Tai Chi, where she regularly shares both instructional and demonstration videos.
